The Five Pillars

The Five Pillars of Islam are the core practices that every Muslim is expected to follow. They form the foundation of a Muslim's life.

1. Shahada (Declaration of Faith)

"There is no god but Allah, and Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah." This declaration of faith is the most fundamental expression of Islamic beliefs.

2. Salah (Prayer)

Muslims pray five times daily: Fajr (dawn), Dhuhr (noon), Asr (afternoon), Maghrib (sunset), and Isha (night). Each prayer involves specific postures and recitations from the Quran.

3. Zakat (Charity)

Muslims who meet a certain wealth threshold must donate 2.5% of their savings annually to those in need.

4. Sawm (Fasting)

During the month of Ramadan, Muslims fast from dawn to sunset, abstaining from food, drink, and other physical needs.

5. Hajj (Pilgrimage)

Every able-bodied Muslim who can afford it must perform the pilgrimage to Makkah at least once in their lifetime.
